Barring Shreyas Iyer, there are no injury concerns for Team India for the New Zealand ODI series.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will deliberate about India’s squad for the New Zealand ODI series on January 3.

BCCI to discuss India’s ODI squad

It was previously reported that the selection committee, comprising Ajit Agarkar, Shiv Sundar Das, Ajay Ratra, RP Singh, and Pragyan Ojha, will discuss the matter in an online meeting on either the 3rd or 4th of January.

The ODI team will assemble in Vadodara for a training camp on January 7, four days before the India vs New Zealand ODI series commences.

“The national selection committee, headed by (former India pacer) Ajit Agarkar, will hold an online meeting on Jan 3 to pick the squad,” a BCCI source told the Times of India.

Rishabh Pant & Dhruv Jurel in focus

KL Rahul is the starting wicketkeeper. But there’s a debate over who the second gloveman could be. Against South Africa, India picked two more keepers: Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel. Neither played, as Rahul captained the team and kept the wickets.

Reports suggest that BCCI will pick Ishan Kishan in the ODI team as well. The left-handed batter from Jharkhand was selected for the T20 World Cup 2026 and has been doing well in the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT). Jurel has outperformed Pant in the VHT but hasn’t played an ODI yet.

It may happen that neither Pant nor Jurel is selected for the India vs New Zealand ODI series. If Shreyas Iyer isn’t fit for selection, we might see Devdutt Padikkal come into the team for one of Pant or Jurel, and Kishan might as well.
