The inaugural edition of Women's BPL T20 will be played from April 3 to 15, 2026.

The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is establishing itself among the T20 leagues around the world, and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is all set to launch a women’s T20 league this year. The BCB on February 11 announced the launch of Women’s BPL, which will be played from 3rd to 15th April. This move comes with the BCB’s long-term plan to develop women’s cricket.

With the tournament set to get underway in a few months’ time, the WBPL will mark Bangladesh’s first-ever franchise-based T20 competition for women. Furthermore, following the announcement of the WBPL, Bangladesh women’s cricket team captain Nigar Sultana also expressed excitement while highlighting it as an opportunity to prepare for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026.

Speaking with Cricbuzz after BCB’s announcement, Nigar Sultana highlighted how these talks have been on for a long time. “I have been hearing for many years that this (WBPL) was going to happen, so finally the announcement has come. Obviously, it is good news. We have always said that there should be a competitive franchise tournament for women. Other countries are already playing women’s franchise-based T20 tournaments, and it’s paying dividends for them,” she said.

The Bangladesh women’s skipper also added, “If you want to compete in world cricket in the T20 format, you have to look at how other countries are progressing through franchise cricket. Most players take part in franchise leagues in different places, and that is how their skill levels develop in various ways. So for us, this would be a very good opportunity.”

Notably, the inaugural edition of the tournament is set to feature three franchises, where players will be selected through a draft system to ensure balance. Furthermore, the franchises will also be allowed to sign overseas players in order to attract international participation.
