The India-Pakistan controversy is taking a new turn everyday. After the handshake and trophy drama that took place on the night of the final, not many are impressed with what was at display. While the cricketing fraternity has stood behind Suryakumar Yadav & team, ex-keeper Syed Kirmani has criticised both the teams.
Kirmani says, “I am ashamed”
In fact, rather than criticising, he went on to say that he was disappointed with the lack of sportsmanship. He added, he felt ashamed after hearing from his friends abroad. Kirmani, while speaking to ANI said, “By and large, there has been no gentlemanness in the game.
“Very rude, arrogant gestures on the field. I am ashamed myself to listen to the comments of my friends from outside India. They said our time was different, we played like gentlemen. But what has happened at the Asia Cup is disgusting. These are their words,” Kirmani said.
Talks about India-Pakistan camaraderie
Kirmani went on to talk about India-Pakistan camaraderie back in the day. “Our time as cricketers, we had such wonderful camaraderie. Pakistani players coming into India, we going into Pakistan — what hospitality, what love, what affection. Exchanging pleasantries, families meeting at parties. Where is that now? The total scenario from our time to this era is absolutely depressing according to me,” he said.
Kirmani concluded by saying that there should be no politics included in sports. “Politics should not enter sports. Leave politics behind. Whatever has transpired away from the sporting field, leave it there itself. Cricket should not be used for such things,” he added.
