Team India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, will board flights to Dubai tonight, kicking off their Asia Cup 2025 campaign. Unlike previous tournaments where the entire squad would depart from Mumbai together, players are arriving from their own cities, as BCCI is aiming for convenience before the action begins.
India to fly Dubai but not together
The Asia Cup 2025 runs from September 9 to 28, featuring eight teams split into two groups. India’s 15-member squad will assemble in Dubai by the evening of September 4, with Suryakumar Yadav set to lead the contingent. This time, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to forgo the usual group travel plan.
Instead, each player is flying in directly from their hometown or wherever they are engaged in domestic matches. This means stars like Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah will join the team at slightly different times, avoiding an extra stopover in Mumbai. Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel were also at their respective homes.
As soon as the squad assembles, their first practice session is scheduled for September 5 at the ICC Academy in Dubai. The team will then have several days to train and acclimatise, with regular prep and net sessions expected until their tournament opener.
Notably, some players, namely Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, and Kuldeep Yadav are coming straight off Duleep Trophy commitments and will join their teammates in the UAE. Standby names like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Prasidh Krishna, and Washington Sundar aren’t flying with the initial squad but can be called up as needed later in the tournament.
