Just a week after giving up captaincy of the Mumbai Ranji team, Ajinkya Rahane will be seen in action for his side in the KSCA Invitational Tournament in Karnataka, as per the Times of India. Veteran batter Siddhesh Lad will lead the side in the competition, which will also have the likes of Sarfaraz Khan, Musheer Khan & Atharva Ankolekar. For the unversed, it has two-day matches, while the tournament serves as a pre-season one, to get the players ready for the domestic season ahead.
Ajinkya Rahane in Mumbai Team for KSCA Invitational
Earlier, while giving up the captaincy, Rahane had made it clear, that he wants to keep contributing as a player. “Captaining and winning championships with the Mumbai team has been an absolute honour,” Rahane wrote in a social media post. “With a new domestic season ahead, I believe it’s the right time to groom a new leader. And hence I’ve decided not to continue in the captaincy role. I remain fully committed to giving my best as a player and will continue my journey with MCA to help us win more trophies. Looking forward to the season.”
First Tournament After Leaving Mumbai Captaincy
Meanwhile, Rahane had played a crucial role in breaking Mumbai’s 9-year drought for a trophy, when he led the side to victory in the 2023-24 season. Most recently, he captained KKR in IPL 2025, but it wasn’t a very successful one for the team, as they finished eighth in eventually.
As far as his Test career is concerned, he played 85 matches for India, where he scored 5077 runs, at an average of 38, with 12 tons and 26 fifties. He last played for India against the West Indies in July 2023.
