"Absolute Nonsense" - India B team cannot beat Pakistan side, Sunil Gavaskar's statement ridiculed

Champions Trophy: Jason Gillespie wasn't particularly happy about what was said about the Pakistani team.

Pakistan team had a horrendous campaign at the 2025 Champions Trophy, where they were not only ousted from the tournament in the first round itself, but also failed to win any matches. Such was their performance, that Sunil Gavaskar went on to famously say, that even India’s B team could beat Mohammad Rizwan’s Pakistan.

But then ex-PAK coach Jason Gillespie has not bought this claim for sure. He called that ‘absolute nonsense’. “I don’t buy this rhetoric. I saw some comments from Sunil Gavaskar about the Indian B team or Indian C team would beat the Pakistan top team. That’s nonsense. Absolute nonsense. If Pakistan pick and stick with the right players and give them time to shine and, time to learn and develop their games, they can beat anyone. I’ve got no doubt about that,” said Gillespie.

“I think a B team (from India) certainly (can give Pakistan a run for their money). C team, I am not too sure. But a B team will be very, very hard to beat for Pakistan in their current form,” Gavaskar had earlier said in a chat on Sports Today.

There were a lot of issues with the Pakistan team in the Champions Trophy, where Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam failed with the bat. Apart from that, their main bowlers, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf also were pathetic. Now, they will play a limited-overs series against New Zealand — three ODIs and three T20Is, starting March 16.
