Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill power India to highest powerplay score in Asia Cup

Gill and Sharma ensured that India raced to 72 runs at the end of the powerplay in the Super 4 game against Bangladesh

Bangladesh cricket team faced the wrath of Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma as India posted 77 runs in the powerplay – the most by the team in Asia Cup 2025. Put in to bat first in their Super 4 fixture against BAN, Gill and Sharma started slow but were quick enough to make the opposition repent. Gill and Sharma ensured that India raced to 72 runs at the end of the powerplay, the highest that Team India has gotten to in the ongoing Asia Cup.

Gill, Sharma shatter records at Asia Cup

Like the game against Pakistan, Abhishek made the most after being dropped by Bangladesh skipper Jaker Ali on 7 runs. The openers went on to put up a 77-run opening stand as the Bangladesh bowlers struggled to get a breakthrough. This happens to be the third highest partnership between the duo in the ongoing Asia Cup, with the highest being 105 against Pakistan.

Abhishek scored 8 boundaries in the powerplay while Gill scored two. The duo have been unstoppable in this tournament.  Sharma is currently the top run-getter in Asia Cup, with 248 runs to his name from 5 innings. Gill, the vice-captain of the Indian team has 111 runs to his name in the tournament so far.

Gill has done well so far after replacing Sanju Samson as opener in the T20I setup. The Punjab batter returned to the shortest format of the game after over an year.
