Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain’s Paris Olympics 2024 journey ended on Sunday with a narrow defeat to top seed Li Qian in the women’s 75kg quarterfinals. Li Qian, who had previously defeated Lovlina Borgohain in the Asian Games final last year, won by a 4-1 split decision.
A win would have guaranteed Lovlina another Olympic medal, as semi-finalists in the Summer Games are awarded at least a bronze. However, Li Qian’s superior aggression in the closely contested bout secured her victory over the Indian boxer.
Lovlina’s defeat was a heartbreak for the Indians, as the pugilist was just one win away from a medal. Devastated by the loss, many people are reacting on social media to Lovlina Borgohain’s defeat.
