No tolerance for failures
Karthik further revealed that Shastri wanted players to bat like the way he would want them to. If they failed to do that, Shastri would not be happy with their coach.
“He had a very low tolerance for somebody who wouldn’t bat at a certain pace he did not like or someone who was doing very differently in the nets and in the match, he would go and bat differently. He would not be very appreciative of that,” Hindustan Times quoted Karthik as saying in Cricbuzz doc series Summer Stalemate.
“Shastri knew exactly what he wanted from the team, the way in which it was played, but his tolerance was very little for failures. He always used to push people to do very well,” said Karthik.
Shastri’s era of Success
Ravi Shastri’s era with the Indian team came to an end after the T20 World Cup in UAE last year. The departure also marked the end of Kohli and Shastri era, that had seen India reach the final of the ICC World Test Championship, and were the semifinalists in the 2019 ODI World Cup. India also won Test series in Australia, not once but twice under the stewardship of Shastri.
Shastri was also the man in charge of the Indian Team the last time they won the Asia Cup in 2018 in UAE. India also famously won the T20I series against South Africa in their own land in 2018. Virat Kohli has also credited Shastri as one of the reasons to thrive with the bat, as he enjoyed the form of his life under the him.

Will Karthik make the Playing 11?
India have been blessed with quality wicketkeepers in their squad. The current list includes Dinesh Karthik, Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan among others. Pant is obviously the number one choice, but Karthik has been giving him strong competition. With the Asia Cup being the next big competition for India, it remains to be seen if both will feature in the Playing XI or only one.
