FIFA WC MEXICO TEAM: A team that has consistency written all over them – Mexico, the team that produces a lot of footballing talent, has been one of, if not the most consistent team in the World Cup over the last 5 editions.
From 2002 all the way to 2018, they have made it out of the group stage, but have faltered at the Round of 16 stages. This time, they will be hoping to break this unhealthy pattern in Qatar.
FIFA WC MEXICO SQUAD: The former manager of FC Barcelona for 2013/14, Gerardo Martino is the head coach of Mexico for this edition of the World Cup and he has been at the helm since 2019, also winning the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2019, beating USA in the final.
In the World Cup Qualifying, they finished in 2nd place with 28 points over USA and just behind Canada. They struggled to score goals against USA, Canada, and Costa Rica and failed to dominate the teams in the top 4 alongside them too. They will need to fine-tune this aspect as the quality of the opponents goes up drastically at the World Cup.
MEXICO TEAM NEWS: They are touted to line up in a 4-3-3 formation and have good players through the park. Hirving Lozano, the Napoli forward has to be their focal point in attack and he will be operating from the LW position.
He has been on the rise ever since he signed for Napoli and he will need to produce and bring out his very best if Mexico wants to get rid of the Round of 16 ghosts and move further in the tournament. The Ajax midfielder, Edson Alvarez is a key component in Mexico’s midfield as he will be responsible to break up opposition attacks and bridge the gap between defense and attack.
MEXICO Team INJURY LIST: There are two injury concerns for Mexico as they plan their trip to Qatar, midfielder Jesus Corona will definitely miss the tournament with a fractured leg and there are doubts about Raul Jiminez’s involvement with Mexico as he is dealing with a chronic fatigue problem.
FIFA WC MEXICO GROUP NEWS: Mexico will be locking horns with Argentina, Poland, and Saudi Arabia in Group C of the FIFA World Cup 2022. Their eyes will be locked on the 2nd spot, fighting mostly with Poland, with everyone expecting Argentina to top the group.
FIFA WC MEXICO Matches & Schedule: Mexico’s first game of the tournament will be against Poland on the 22nd of November, followed by Argentina on the 27th of the month and they wrap things up with their final group game against Saudi Arabia on the 1st of December.
