FIFA WC ARGENTINA TEAM: When you have a superstar like Lionel Messi in your team, a player who transcends the sport he plays in, the player with the most Ballon d’Or’s in the history of the sport, the mercurial genius who can turn a game with a single touch of the ball, expectations are fairly high.

That has been the case with Argentina as they have chased the biggest glory in football – the FIFA World Cup, sadly, it has evaded them so far. They made the finals in 2014 but lost out by a single goal to winners Germany. They will hope to put the demons of 2014 and 2018 behind them in Qatar now.

FIFA WC ARGENTINA SQUAD: After what has felt like a decade of them having an unbalanced squad, where there is too much firepower in attack (where they’ve found it hard to find cohesion), and not enough across the remaining parts of the pitch. We have seemed to reach a point where Lionel Scaloni, their 2021 Copa America winning coach has built a team where balance is struck between all the facets on the pitch.

Apart from Messi, the ‘star’ quotient seems to be absent in this Argentine team as all of them fight for everything together. There is quite a camaraderie in this team, which is evident in the way they play too. A keeper who has been on fire for a while now, with a good and solid defensive structure, backed up by a midfield that has a mix of creativity and energy to transition between defense and attack. Add to this Lionel Messi and the Albiceleste’s attack, and you have a potent team.

ARGENTINA TEAM NEWS: Lionel Scaloni will be happy with how Albiceleste’s team has shaped up over the last 3 years. A team is also as good as the culture inside the dressing room is, and Scaloni has struck that balance to perfection. Their attack looks stacked with Messi, Martinez, Di Maria, Correa, and Dybala (if he returns from his injury).

With names like Paredes, De Paul, Lo Celso, and Ocampos in midfield, they look set ahead of the big tournament. Otamendi has found his Valencia form again as after a rough patch at Manchester City towards the end of his spell, he has regained confidence at Benfica, and he will be partnered by Tottenham’s Christian Romero. All-in-all, their squad looks as fit as a fiddle as they head to Qatar.

ARGENTINA Team INJURY LIST: Paulo Dybala is the biggest concern for the Argentine team as the ace forward from AS Roma suffered a hamstring injury and looks like he might miss the mega event. It might not be the biggest miss for Scaloni as Paulo has been a squad player, more than a starter, but still, his quality from the bench could be missed. Angel di Maria suffered a low-grade lesion to the hamstring, but he should be back to 100% fitness before boarding the plane to Qatar.

FIFA WC ARGENTINA GROUP NEWS: The Albiceleste are placed in Group-C with the likes of Poland, Saudi Arabia, and Mexico. A relatively easier group that one suspects Argentina would top.

FIFA WC ARGENTINA Matches & Schedule: Their campaign kicks off against Saudi Arabia on the 22nd of November, followed by their game against Mexico on the 27th, and the final game of the group for them would be against Poland on the 1st of December.
