About Washington Sundar

Tamil Nadu all-rounder Washington Sundar (18 years) was offered the chance to play for India in the T20I tri-series against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in March, 2018. The youngster took the opportunity with both hands and went on to take 9 wickets at an average of 15.11 in 6 matches with a solid economy rate of 5.67. His efforts saw him winning the Man-of-the-series award for his performance. Sundar’s rise in career started from U-19 level cricket. He was bought by Rising Pune Supergiant in IPL 2017 to replace Ravichandran Ashwin.

Career

Domestic career

Representing Tamil Nadu, Washington Sundar made his domestic debut back  in the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy.  Like Ravichandran Ashwin from Tamil Nadu before him, Washington Sundar went from being a batsman as a youngster to making his name as an offspinner. In October 2017, he scored his maiden first-class century, batting for Tamil Nadu against Tripura in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy.

International career

In November 2017, he was named in India’s Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for their series against Sri Lanka. Since then, Washington Sundar has been in and out from the Indian side. Sundar last played his international match against Afghanistan back in January this year. Overall, Sundar has represented India in 66 matches.

IPL career

Thanks to his antics in the domestic arena, Washington Sundar was selected by Rising Pune Supergiant as a replacement for Ravichandran Ashwin in 2017. He also had received the man of the match award in IPL 2017 Qualifier 1 played between Mumbai Indians and Pune Supergiants, in which he took 3 wickets for 16 runs. Currently, Washington Sundar is representing Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL.
