Anish Bhanwala earns ticket to Paris 2024 Olympics at Asian Shooting Championships

Apart from securing the Paris 2024 Olympics quota, Anish Bhanwala also won a bronze in men's 25m rapid fire at Asian Shooting Championships.

India’s star shooter and Commonwealth Games gold medalist Anish Bhanwala bagged India’s 12th Paris 2024 Olympic quota in shooting after he won the bronze medal in the men’s 25m rapid pistol fire event at the Asian Championships in Changwon, South Korea on Monday. The gold medal went to local lad Lee Gunhyeok, while Japan’s Dai Yoshioka shot his way to the silver medal.

Bhanwala, on the other hand, shot 28 in the final, to settle for the third position. Interestingly, the 21-year-old had won the ticket to the Paris 2024 Olympics in the qualification round itself, where he shot 588 out of 600. China, Japan, and Korea have already won two Olympic quotas in the event.

This is India’s 12th Paris 2024 Olympics quota in shooting, and fifth overall at the Asian Shooting Championships 2023. As far as this tournament is concerned, India has won 30 medals, including eight golds.

Another Indian in the fray, Vijayveer Sidhu, failed to make the cut for the final, and finished 10th overall. Adarsh Singh could only shoot 570, and ended in 25th place.
