UFC 294: Muhammad Mokaev Reveals Flag Ban Is Back In Abu Dhabi

Fighters won't be permitted to take their national flags into the cage at UFC 294.

Just two weeks ago, Dana White, the UFC’s newly appointed CEO under its new corporate owners, TKO, joyfully declared that flags that had been banned for nearly two years had been reinstated, giving the fans a ray of hope, that they would see their favorite fighters carrying their flags into the Octagon, during UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi.

In response to an insight he got while watching the Noche UFC event in Las Vegas, UFC CEO Dana White eased his prohibition on flags until 2022 earlier this month. In other words, White doesn’t care if it hurts anyone’s (expletive) feelings; he just wants UFC athletes to be able to proudly represent their home countries.

Muhammad Mokaev Reveals Flag Ban Is Back In Abu Dhabi At UFC 294

Flags are once again prohibited, according to flyweight Muhammad Mokaev, who competes against Tim Elliott in the main “Prelims” match at UFC 294 on October 21 in Abu Dhabi.

Muhammad Mokaev, a rising flyweight contender, has revealed that despite Dana White lifting the flag prohibition at the recently finished UFC Fight Night 229, fighters won’t be permitted to take their national flags into the cage at UFC 294.

In the midst of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia in 2022, the embargo was initially put in place.

While the UFC’s abrupt change of heart on the recently reinstated privilege at the forthcoming pay-per-view may seem some as odd, many think the choice was motivated by the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine.

Tim Elliott, a seasoned flyweight, will square off against Muhammad Mokaev during the pay-per-view preliminary bout. Mokaev has a perfect 10-0 record, including a 4-0 UFC record and one NC (no contest).

Although UFC is a guest in Abu Dhabi and will have to abide by any current regulations, the promotion has yet to make any public announcements addressing its current flag policy. Additionally, due to “increased tensions” in several regions of the world, the U.S. Department of State recently issued a “Worldwide Caution” advisory for citizens of the United States visiting the Middle East, including Abu Dhabi.

At the UFC 294 post-fight press conference, White is likely to clarify.
