Roger Federer LAVER Cup: At the O2 Arena in London, where the Laver Cup is all set to be held, Roger Federer met the media for a briefing, which was his first since he announced his retirement few days ago through his social media account. Speaking about his final tournament in his career, he confirmed that he will on Friday in the doubles. “It will be special to share the court with anybody regardless .It will be special because I haven’t been on a Tennis court for so,so long.” The 41-year old last played competitive Tennis during last year’s Wimbledon, where he lost in the quarterfinals against Hubert Hurkacz. After that he was sidelined with a knee injury and underwent a third surgery.

While Federer didn’t reveal who will be his partner, it is likely that he will want to make it memorable by pairing up with Rafael Nadal, with whom he has shared a great rivalry in the past. “I know it’s going to be crazy stadium with unbelievable fans. But of course, id it were to be Rafa, I find it quite ironic that it would be the two of us playing my last match. We’ll see how it goes.”

If the Swiss legend pairs up with Nadal, it will be the second time in the history of the Laver Cup that both the players would be pairing up in the doubles. The only time they featured in the doubles before was during the inaugural edition of the Laver Cup at Prague in 2017, sending fans around the world in frenzy, they faced American duo Sam Querrey and Jack Sock and won the iconic contest 6-4, 1-6, 10-5.

The pair could not play together again so far in the Laver Cup. Speaking about Nadal, Federer said, “We always got along really well. For us as well to go through a career that we both have had and to come out on the other side and being able to have a nice relationship, I think is maybe a great message as well, to not just tennis but sports and maybe even beyond. For that reason I think it would be great.”

The Laver Cup is scheduled to begin on Friday, 23rd September and will end on 25th September, Sunday. The matches will be played between Team Europe and Team World at the O2 Arena in London.
