The Indian duo of Sania and Rohan Bopanna suffered HEARTBREAK as they lost the MIXED DOUBLES FINAL in straight sets. The Brazilian pair of Luisa Stefani and Rafael Matos defeated the Indians by 7-6, 6-2. This was Sania’s last GRAND SLAM Match. Sania, Rohan reached the final of the mixed doubles event after defeating the third-seeded pairing of England’s Neal Skupski and United States’ Desirae Krawczyk.

Sania has announced retirement from the sport after next month’s Dubai Masters.

In her last dance at Australian Open, Sania was hoping to win her seventh Grand Slam title of her career. 36-year-old Sania has won six tennis Grand Slam titles – three each in women’s doubles and in mixed doubles.

This includes the Australian Open mixed doubles trophy in 2009 with Mahesh Bhupathi. She has won three women’s doubles titles and as many mixed doubles championships.
