WPL Auction 2023: What we know so far

  • The Inuargal WPL will be held between March 4-26
  • Five teams were sold for a combined INR 4669.99 crore
  • 1525 players registered for the first-ever WPL Player Auction
  • BCCI narrowed the list down to 409 players
  • A maximum of 90 players can be sold at the event.
  • The WPL Auction will be held in Mumbai on February 13.
  • Each time has a purse of Rs 12 crore.
  • Players are placed in categories of Rs 50 lakh, 40 lakh, 20 and 10 lakh.

WPL Auction 2023 LIVE: BCCI announces Women’s IPL Auction on February 13, Harmanpreet Kaur, Ellyse Perry, Sophie Ecclestone headline 409-player shortlist – Follow LIVE Updates

In an official statement, the BCCI revealed the dates of the WPL Auction. As reported previously by Insidesport, the event will take place at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai On February 13. A total of 1525 players registered for the inaugural Women’s Premier League Player Auction. The BCCI have narrowed the list down to 409. The Auction will start at 14:30 IST.

Out of 409 players, 246 are Indians and 163 are overseas players of which 8 players are from associate nations. The total number of capped players is 202, uncapped players are 199 and 8 are from associate nations. A maximum of 90 slots are available with the five teams, with 30 being slotted for overseas players.

WPL Auction Sets:

1st set: Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur, Sophie Devine, Sophie Ecclestone, Ashleigh Gardner, Hayley  Matthew, Ellyse Perry.

2nd set: Shabnim Ismail, Amelia Kerr, Tahlia McGrath, Beth Mooney, Deepti Sharma, Renuka Singh, Nat Sciver.

3rd set: Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Suzie Bates, Tammy Beaumont, Tazmin Brits, Sophia Dunkely, Meg Lanning, Laura Wolvaardt.

INR 50 Lakhs is the highest reserve price with 24 players choosing to be slotted in the highest bracket. Team India Captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma and India’s Under-19 T20 World Cup-winning captain Shafali Verma are among the few Indians who have slotted themselves in the highest bracket. 13 overseas players have also slotted themselves under the INR 50 Lakh reserve price with the likes of Ellyse Perry, Sophie Ecclestone, Sophie Devine & Deandra Dottin to name a few. 30 players are on the auction list with a base price of INR 40 Lakh.
