New Zealand: The only team to play all editions but never win it once
Despite making at least the quarterfinal stage in 10 out of the 13 editions of the event, New Zealand has failed to get hold of the coveted ODI World Cup trophy.
South Africa: So close yet too far
Since their re-admission in 1992, South Africa has reached the quarterfinals or better in 7 out of the 9 tournaments they have played. However, their inability to hold their nerves in pressure moments has seen them falter again and again when it matters the most.
Bangladesh: Promise but no dice
Despite rising through the ranks and handing blows to tougher opposition, Bangladesh stands at the same place from where they started. Despite featuring in every ODI World Cup since 1999, they have only reached the final four once.
The young ones: Netherlands and Afghanistan
The Netherlands and Afghanistan have played just 8 ODI World Cups between them. Both teams have never been to the quarterfinals or semifinals. They had a total of 3 wins in the tournament combined prior to the 2023 edition, but won multiple matches in India: 2 for the Netherlands and 4 for Afghanistan.
