Just like Asia Cup, Sanju Samson has failed to acquire his spot in India Squad for the ICC World Cup 2023. Currently out of favour in Men in Blue, KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan have been given the nod ahead of the Rajasthan Royals skipper. In the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 campaign, Sanju Samson has been named as a traveling reserve.

It was not a surprise that Sanju Samson would get a chance in the mixes after he was named just as a traveling reserve in the Asia Cup 2023 campaign. He failed to seal his spot in Asia Cup despite KL Rahul missing the first 2 games. But now that KL Rahul is back in the team, it sealed Samson’s fate of making it to the mega stage.
Sanju Samson last featured for India in the T20I series against Ireland. He returned to join the Asia Cup 2023 camp at the NCA for the last 2 days along with Jasprit Bumrah and Tilak Varma. But for the Asia Cup, KL Rahul was ruled out of the first 2 games with a niggle as he rebuilt his fitness at the NCA.
In his spot, India decided to bank on Ishan Kishan who proved his worth by saving India from the blushes against Pakistan. When India’s top order failed, it was Kishan who stepped up against the formidable pace trio of Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf to score a stunning knock of 82 runs. This crucial knock essentially sealed Sanju’s any further chance of making his way back for the Men in Blue.
Team India skipper Rohit Sharma claimed that both KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan can feature in the same Playing XI. Responding to a question in the Press Conference, Rohit claimed, “Yes, there is every possibility – Ishan was brilliant in the last game, we consider all factors before making playing 11 – I want everyone to be fit on the day & then we make the decision”
