Gautam Gambhir snubs Kohli & Rohit, predicts Babar Azam to ‘set World Cup on fire’

"I have not seen many players who have so much time to play," Gautam Gambhir said on Pakistan skipper Babar Azam.

Former Indian opening batter Gautam Gambhir has lauded Babar Azam and has picked him over the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to perform well in the upcoming World Cup. Gambhir believes that Babar has the potential to make a significant impact in the World Cup, citing his exceptional qualities. To note, India will be hosting this year’s World Cup with the first match of the tournament to be played between defending champs England and New Zealand on October 5.

When asked to choose one player among today’s modern cricket greats like David Warner, Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson, Steve Smith, Babar Azam, Joe Root, and Rohit Sharma, whom he will be closely watching during the World Cup, Gambhir singled out Babar Azam.

“I think Babar Azam possesses all kinds of qualities that he can set this World Cup on fire,” Gambhir said. “I have not seen many players who have so much time to play. Yes, I believe that we have greats like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson, and Joe Root, but Babar Azam has a different level of quality,” he added.

To note, Pakistan will travel to India to participate in the upcoming World Cup which kicks off from October 5. Pakistan will play warm-up matches against Australia and New Zealand in Hyderabad ahead of the main event. The Men in Green will want to put on a good effort with both and the ball in the upcoming event and try to win an ICC trophy which has been missing in their cabinet since 2017.
