Cristiano Ronaldo comes to aid of Morocco earthquake survivors, donates hotel for shelter

CR7 shelters displaced people in his 4-star hotel in Morocco

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Morocco hotel has been turned into a shelter for those affected by Friday’s 6.8 magnitude earthquake. According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake measured 6.8 on the Richter scale. The devastating natural disaster left more than 800 people dead and another 650 injured.

People sought refuge in any building that could be found, including Ronaldo’s hotel, following the disaster. Pestana CR7 Marrakech is rated four stars, a level below luxury, and features an outdoor swimming pool, a fitness centre, a restaurant, and a terrace.

But as the people of the country come together to search for a way to rebuild, the hotel has let go of its high-end appeal for the greater good of Moroccan people.

The old town area of Marrakech, a UNESCO World Heritage site, has suffered some of the worst effects of the earthquake. Buildings and city walls have collapsed and the narrow alleyways have made it difficult for the injured to be located and transported to safety, according to news agency Reuters.

The city’s public structures, including squares and intersections, have been hastily transformed into emergency shelters, providing temporary accommodation for those displaced by the disaster. Cristiano Ronaldo is not the only footballer to demonstrate solidarity with those in need.
