Wolves Captain Ruben Neves set to join Al-Hilal on club record £47 million deal

Wolves captain Ruben Neves will be leaving the club after spending 6 years at the club. His primary choice was to move to Barcelona, but that deal fell through. Taking it as an opportunity, Saudi club Al-Hilal have offered Wolves a club record £55 million deal for Neves.

Ruben Neves Transfer: Wolves captain Ruben Neves has been linked with a move away from the Premier League club. He has one year left on his contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers and has been looking for a move away. Reportedly, Barcelona showed interest in him as Neves also primarily wanted them. However, that deal seems to be falling apart. In the wake of that, Saudi club Al-Hilal have proposed a record deal to Wolves for the midfielder. Reportedly, Neves will be accepting the £47 million deal sooner rather than later.

Wolves captain Ruben Neves has only one year left on his contract with the Premier League club. With his contract set to expire in June, 2024, Wolves are ready to sell the 26-year-old, rather than renew his contract. Neves came to Wolves from Porto in 2017 on a rumoured £15.8 million deal. At that time, Wolves were playing in England’s second-division league, The Championship. From the first year of his joining, he became an important part of the team.

Neves helped Wolves get promoted to the Premier League as they won The Championship in his first season. He bagged the Player of the Season award in the same season. He has since been an integral part of the team that now does not fight relegation in the competition. At the start of the season, Neves was given the armband to lead the team. While it is clear how important the player has been for Wolves, the club also needs the transfer money to ease their Financial Fair Play issues.

Barcelona showed keen interest in Ruben Neves this summer transfer window. They were ready to swap the youngster Ansu Fati for Neves. Barcelona also wanted around £25 million along with Ansu Fati for the deal. While the deal was close to happening, it still fell through. Saudi club Al-Hilal have taken this opportunity to present a club record deal to Wolves. They have offered a £47 million deal to the Premier League club. Wolves’ last record deal was the £40 million fee that Liverpool paid for Diogo Jota.

Ruben Neves Transfer to Al-Hilal is nearly confirmed, Premier League player set to leave Wolverhampton Wanderers for the Saudi Pro League

As per reports, Al-Hilal is in talks with the player’s agent Jorge Mendes and Wolves. Neves could be signing the contract with the Saudi club as soon as he comes back next week from his international duty. Undoubtedly, the salary amount will be a motivation to move for Navas. However, considering his age, it is a surprise to see him move away from Europe. Reportedly, his agent has been instrumental in seeing through the deal. Neves also waved an emotional goodbye to Wolves fans at the end of their 2022-23 season.

If Neves makes a move to Al-Hilal, he will be joining former Premier League players Andre Carillo and Matheus Pereira at the club. Al-Hilal have also approached Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku on a £42 million deal and Kalidou Koulibaly on a £20 million-per-year deal. They also tried Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric when his teammate Karim Benzema joined Al-Ittihad. Other than Benzema, Navas will find Cristino Ronaldo as his rival in the league. Reportedly, Saudi clubs are approaching others and are ready to bring in more world-class players.
