Manchester United eye ex-Chelsea flop Timo Werner in January window

Timo Werner could be on the move to Manchester United in the January transfer window as English club are interested.

According to shocking rumors in Germany, Manchester United has made inquiries about signing former Chelsea forward Timo Werner. The Red Devils haven’t been at their best this season, neither in the Premier League nor the Champions League.

Erik Ten Hag has been under the pump all season so far. Manchester United have not been scoring a lot of goals this season and it seems like Ten Hag has decided to add some firepower this winter window.

Timo Werner to Manchester United?

Erik ten Hag is looking to add more strikers because Rasmus Hojlund, a £72 million summer acquisition, has yet to score in the Premier League. According to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports Germany, Timo Werner of RB Leipzig is on Manchester United’s want list.

Official discussions have not yet taken place. But it is rumored that Manchester United has already enquired about Leipzig’s striker’s availability. Timo Werner struggled throughout his two years in West London after signing a £53 million contract with Chelsea in 2020.

Despite scoring just 23 goals in 89 games, Werner helped assist the Blues in winning the Champions League in 2021. After scoring 16 goals in 40 appearances, Werner was sold back to Leipzig in the summer of 2022 for a fee of £23.5 million.

But after 13 games across all competitions, the attacker—who can play out wide or in the center—has only scored twice this season. There are rumors that the 27-year-old may return to the Premier League and Manchester United could be his destination. He is reportedly unsatisfied in the Bundesliga once more.

Although Werner is thought to be prepared to play out the rest of the season, along with Manchester United, Fulham and West Ham have also been linked to him. Real Madrid is reportedly keeping an eye on Werner as well. But to the surprise of the supporters, United is now the latest major team to show interest in the player.

United fans not happy with Werner signing rumours

It seems like the Manchester United fans are not too happy with the reports. One disappointed Red Devils fan wrote, ‘I’m not a fan of this.’ Another added, ‘Tell me that’s a joke.’

Some other fans were willing to give it a shot though. One argued, ‘I’d take him all day.’ A second agreed, ‘I’d take this happily.’
