After their loss in the final match against Australia, the Test team has seen minimal alterations. Nevertheless, a few talented young players have been selected for their debut. The upcoming Test series holds significance as it will be the initial set of matches for both West Indies and India in the 2023-2025 ICC World Test Championship. The opening Test will take place at Windsor Park in Dominica from July 12th to 16th, followed by a historic second Test at Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad from July 20th to 24th. This match will commemorate the 100th Test encounter between West Indies and India.

Rohit, Kohli, and Gill will once again shoulder the responsibility of bolstering the batting lineup. However, they face the added pressure of delivering consistently to facilitate the impending transitional phase. Pujara’s exclusion and Shreyas Iyer’s unavailability due to back surgery mean that either Jaiswal or Ruturaj Gaikwad will earn their maiden Test cap. While these two players don’t necessarily require constant guidance, it is crucial at this stage of their international careers to have the luxury of learning from their more renowned teammates, allowing them to gradually establish themselves.

Fortunately, the current West Indian bowling attack lacks the same level of penetration and intimidating pace that was seen in the late 1970s and 1980s. Additionally, the pitches in the Caribbean are not as challenging as they were back in that time. Presently, the Caribbean pacers do not generate extraordinary attention, partly due to reduced emphasis on the longer format of the game and the surfaces being slower, resembling subcontinent conditions more than anything else.
