Hardik Pandya potentially returning to Mumbai Indians is the biggest news ahead of the IPL Retention deadline on November 26. But will Rohit lead MI is the million-dollar question the nation wants to know. Kris Srikkant feels the India captain will take a backseat and allow Pandya to lead MI in the IPL 2024 season.

Srikkant believes Rohit Sharma will just help Pandya in the smooth transition process, just like MS Dhoni did during Virat Kohli was the ODI captain.

“No no (not the end for Rohit). It’s about a smooth transition. It happened between Sachin and Rohit. Now it’s time for Rohit to Hardik. It’s going to be a smooth transition. At the end of the day, Rohit and Hardik share a wonderful relationship. Obviously, they will make Hardik Pandya the captain. Rohit Sharma will be a key figure and ensure a smooth transition. You need a smooth transition to avoid hiccups in the team,” Srikkant said on his YouTube channel.

For the unversed, Pandya began his Titans IPL stint with a bang by winning the trophy in the IPL 2023 season. Under Ashish Nehra’s guidance, the all-rounder blossomed and inspired the other members to play fearlessly. GT managed to defy all odds and managed to get the best out of the players like David Miller, Tewatia, Shami, Sai Sudarshan, and Wriddhiman Saha.

Pandya became the toast of the nation after the win and went on to become India’s T20 captain. However, GT letting go of the captain despite terrific success has raised quite a eyebrows.

Will Rohit Sharma lead Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2024 season?

Rohit has won five trophies for MI since taking leadership in 2013. The 36-year-old has brought a very good culture in the dressing room and has always backed the players to the hilt. With WC ending in heartbreak, one would expect the India opener to lead MI at least in the next IPL season. However, Hardik Pandya has stated clearly that he wants a leadership role.

That was one of the reasons he went to GT. His homecoming to MI means only one thing he will lead MI in the IPL 2024 season. However, the official announcement of the same is yet to happen.
