Glenn Maxwell once again starred in a dazzling display to keep Australia’s hopes in the IND vs AUS T20I series alive. Maxwell’s unbeaten 104 guided the Aussies to their first T20I win of the series chasing a total of 223. The innings came under pressure, much like his ODI double ton against Afghanistan the 2023 ODI World Cup. Maxwell’s calmness under pressure and his consistency has impressed former cricketers Simon Katich and Ashish Nehra.
Maxwell didn’t have a good start to the match, going for 30 runs in the 20th over of India’s innings. Speaking at the post-match show, Former Australian cricketer Simon Katich said Maxwell ‘shouldn’t have bowled’.
Maxwell had to make amends for that final over where he conceded 30 runs. He probably shouldn’t have bowled, but that wasn’t his fault,” Katich said.

However it was the batting performance that had Katich amazed. “What he showed with the bat tonight is absolute master-class, not only in terms of power hitting but also maneuvering the ball all around the field. He can go home a happy man now,” Katich added.
Former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra soon joined Katich and heaped praise on the Aussie batter for his consistency recently.
“This is not the first time Glenn Maxwell has done this. Earlier, it was more of a hit and miss, but now the consistency is getting better. He did it against Afghanistan, he did he here too. If a guy like Maxwell starts to do this consistently, he will win a lot of games for his team,” Nehra said.
India’s missed opportunities
Katich also pointed out two instances where India could have turned the tie in their favour, both involving Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav.

“India missed a couple of chances to get Australia’s batters out. There was an early run out opportunity but Suryakumar’s throw from long on on Maxwell’s end was wide off the mark. Mathew Wade sliced another ball to the covers but the Indian captain couldn’t hold on to it,” Katich said.
