IPL 2024 auction: Aakash Chopra wants LSG to target overseas pacer; cites Naveen-ul-Haq, Mark Wood factors

The team’s pace department currently comprises of Naveen-ul-Haq and Mark Wood, with the side having traded Shepherd and released Sams

Ahead of the IPL 2024 auctions, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra opined that the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) should target to add an overseas pacer in their squad. The commentator cited Naveen-ul-Haq’s inability to bowl on a flat pitch and Mark’s Wood’s incapability to play a full season as to why LSG should pay heed to his advice. LSG will enter the IPL 2024 auction with Rs 13.15 cr in their purse.

Mark Wood never plays the entire season and Naveen-ul-Haq is not the best bowler on flat pitches. So I feel you can choose an overseas fast bowler. Money will decide who you can pick but there are plenty of options – Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Ben Dwarshuis, Gerald Coetzee, Matt Henry, Eathan Bosch or Dilshan Madushanka“, Aakash Chopra said in a video uploaded on his YouTube channel.

What does LSG look like ahead of IPL 2024 auction?

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), who traded fast bowler Avesh Khan for Devdutt Padikkal, have also released some of the other players ahead of the mini-auction on December 19.

Apart from Avesh Khan, LSG have also let go of Deepak Hooda, Jaydev Unadkat, Karun Nair, and Daniel Sams. Hooda had a horrible outing in the IPL 2023 season, not managing to score a fifty in nine matches. Karun Nair and Jaydev Unadkat did not get enough chances due to team combinations.

LSG made it to the playoffs of the IPL 2023 season despite regular skipper KL Rahul not playing second half of the IPL. Ahead of the mini-auction they have announced Justin Langer as the head coach.
