IPL 2023: Deccan Chargers – Adam Gilchrist created quite a stir on social media when he shared Deccan Chargers (DC) logo and anthem on his Instagram account on April 14, regenerating thoughts in netizens’ minds about the possibility of the franchise back in the Indian Premier League (IPL). DC last featured in IPL in 2012, before the Sun TV Network won the bid for the Hyderabad franchise, naming as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Gilchrist has a fond memory with DC, as he led the franchise to victory in the 2009 edition of IPL. For the uninitiated, DC, who were owned by Deccan Chronicle put the franchise up for sale in 2012 due to the constant banning of its players. In July 2020 the Bombay High Court-appointed tribunal ruled that the termination of DC by BCCI was illegal. DC owners were also awarded compensation of rupees 4814.67 Crore plus.

Gilchrist’s Instagram post is giving fans major nostalgia. Few of the fans still have the DC’s jersey and keep humming to the DC anthem song ‘Go Chargers.’ Fans flooded social media with emotional comments. One of the users wrote, “Can’t forget watching 2009 final in my 6th grade. Mad final it was. What a squad that too.” Another user lauded Gilly for sharing the post by saying, “So damn true!!! So damn true DC best IPL team ever! I was telling the same to my colleagues last week! Everything about the team was super.”
Majority of the fans want DC to be seen in action yet again. While there is now official information about DC being reinstated in IPL, fans are hoping to see DC back with the same jersey, same theme song, and old set of players.
