INDIA vs PAKISTAN

  • Shahen Afridi poses a threat to the opening batters according to former Australian cricketer Tom Moody
  • Shaheen Afridi picked up two wickets in the warm-up game against Afghanistan which was later abandoned due to rain.
  • Pakistan will take on arch-rivals India on Sunday, October 23 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
  • In Pakistan’s match against the Men in Blue during the T20 World Cup last year, Shaheen dismantled India’s top order, dismissing Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli.

On Monday, the 22-year-old made his comeback in a warm-up game against England, bowling two overs and allowing just seven runs.  He did, though, regain his rhythm in the second warm-up game against Afghanistan, taking two wickets. Rahmullah Gurbaz was forced to seek medical assistance after being smacked by an in-swinging yorker from Shaheen that struck the batter’s left foot.

In the meantime, Moody cautioned all of the World Cup’s opening batters, saying: “That sign there is what all opening batsman in this World Cup will be fearing. The two arms aloft from Afridi, confident, smiling — because he is deadly with the new ball. That delivery to [Rahmanullah Gurbaz] was an absolute ripper.”

Pakistan, led by Babar Azam, will play India in the Super 12 opener on Sunday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
