Fernando Alonso: Aston Martin F1 driver Fernando Alonso is on a roll this season. The Spaniard is a regular at podium this season with four P3 finishes in the 5 rounds held so far. Not just that, he stands 3rd in the drivers’ standings, only short of the Red Bull duo in terms of points. Though he is strongly motivated to continue performing at the topmost level in Formula 1, there is an unconquered dream of his that he still desires to achieve. We are talking about the triple title, which is arguably one of the rarest feat to achieve as a racing driver. It includes a winning the Monaco GP (or F1 world championship), the 24 hours Le Mans, and Indy 500 race, which is currently underway. McLaren stands on top at the 2023 Indianapolis 500 after day 1of qualifying. A not-so-sweet anecdote relating to this is Alonso’s terrible run at Indy 500 while taking the wheel of his former team McLaren.

His switch to the Papaya Team is still considered a grave mistake by the F1 juggernaut. His outing with the team for four years was arguably the most frustrating time he spent in Formula 1. So much so that he retired following the 2018 season. However, his love for motor racing led him to pursue other option. One of its prominent result is the triumph in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2018-19.

Fernando Alonso Says Indy 500 return is possible with some changes

The only driver till take to achieve the triple crown feat is British legend Graham Hill. The second person to come close is Alonso and 1997 F1 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve. The Canadian is taking another bid at this year’s WEC to win the Le Mans and achieve this recognition, thus equaling Hill. Meanwhile Alonso, who is riding high in F1 with back-to-back podiums, recently opened up about the unfulfilled dream.

“The desire is there , but I think the commitment must be really high and 100%, because there is also a danger factor. When I stopped with Formula 1 to dedicate myself to the 500 Miglia, I realized that small details can make a big difference, and maybe I’m not in step with the times or I’m not prepared like them, and I have to admit it,” said Alonso as reported by Formula Passion.

“So, if I want to win the Indy 500, I need to make some attempts, put my all into it and run some ovals before this race. Consequently, I think that when I stop with Formula 1 this time, maybe I don’t want this commitment,” added the Spaniard.
