‘Back where he belongs’ KKR co-owner Shahrukh Khan excited for IPL 2024, lauds mentor Gautam Gambhir

Former skipper Gautam Gambhir will take the mentor role for KKR ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) edition.

Co-owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) Shahrukh Khan is really excited for the IPL 2024. Ahead of ‘Dunki’, his final release for 2023, Shahrukh Khan connected with his fans through a question & answer session on ‘X’. When asked about the upcoming IPL edition, SRK uploaded a pic with KKR former skipper and current mentor Gautam Gambhir as he stated that he is really looking forward to the next IPL edition.

Gambhir is most successful KKR captain

Ahead of the IPL 2024, KKR roped in Gautam Gambhir as the mentor of their side. It must be mentioned that Gambhir is the most successful KKR captain. Under his leadership, the Men in Purple won two titles back in 2012 and 2014 respectively. Since his exit, Kolkata Knight Riders have never been able to win the IPL title. Former England skipper Eoin Morgan did take KKR into the final in 2021 but they lost to Chennai Super Kings in the final match of that edition

Earlier, Gautam Gambhir also expressed excitement upon his return, “Usually, I’m not one to be swayed by emotions, but this feels unique. It’s a return to where everything began. Right now, there’s a mix of emotions—there’s a lump in my throat and a burning passion as I envisage donning that familiar purple and gold jersey again. It’s not just about rejoining KKR; it’s about returning to the city of joy. I’m here, I’m driven, and I’m reclaiming number 23. Ami KKR,” wrote Gambhir.

As stated above, Gambhir’s tenure with KKR was commendable. Apart from winning the IPL title twice, KKR also reached the finals of the Champions League T20 in 2014.
