AUS vs SA HIGHLIGHTS – Australia vs SouthAfrica 3rd Test at SCG ends in Draw – South Africa 255/10 (1st innings) & 106/2 (2nd innings) vs Australia 475/4 (1st innings) – The 3rd Test between Australia and SouthAfrica ended in a draw after thrilling Day 5 on Sunday. The rain in Sydney prevented Australia from completing a perfect 5-0 summer, but the hosts’ achievement in even coming close to a victory on the final day was outstanding. Despite the draw, Australia won the South Africa series 2-0 after dominating the Proteas from ball one at the Gabba three weeks prior. Pat Cummins removed Dean Elgar early in SA’s 2nd innings. While later Josh cleaned up Klaasen. Then Sarel Erwee along with Temba Bavuma took charge of SA defence. Australia enforced the follow-on after bundling out Proteas for 255 in 1st innings on DAY 5 of the SCG Test. The visitors had brief hope to reach safety when Simon Hamer and Keshav Maharaj were on the crease.

Maharaj’s 5th Test 50 was well accompanied by Harmer’s 47. The duo frustrated Australian bowlers with an 80-run partnership before they were removed by Josh Hazlewood. Travis Head struck early on the final day as he removed Marco Jansen. South Africa needed to bat most of the final day to avoid series-whitewash and they exactly did that.

DAY 4 AND DAY 2 HIGHLIGHTS

On Day 4 for Hosts, Skipper Pat Cummins bagged three wickets while Josh Hazlewood scalped two. Nathan Lyon took the other one as every SA batter failed to impress. Visitors lost their 1st wicket of the match in form of Dean Elgar. Sarel Erwee and Heinrich Klaasen soon followed. Temba Bavuma and Khaya Zondo tried to put up some resistance but it was of no use. Kyle Verreynne was the last victim of the day.

After 4 consecutive sessions-washout, the on-field action finally started on the DAY 4 of the 3rd Test. Usman Khawaja was left stranded at 195 as Pat Cummins decided to declare the innings after morning session was washed out.

Earlier, Rain didn’t allow play to start at SCG on DAY 3. It was pouring heavily in Sydney. And after several examinations, Umpires decided to call off the day.

On Day 2 as well, Stumps was called early due to persistent showers in Sydney. Khawaja who scored unbeaten 195 runs, is just 5 away from his maiden Test double ton. Steve Smith gave him good company and scored 104. Together, the duo added 209 runs for the fourth wicket. This was Smith’s 30th test century, one ahead of the legendary Sir Donald Bradman:

Khawaja made back-to-back centuries at the SCG last summer and, with another one, has taken his Test record at the ground to four. His average at the ground is now over 125.00. Ricky Ponting is the only player with more than four Test centuries in Sydney.

Earlier on the opening day, Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne century-plus partnership was broken by Nortje after play resumed for a brief period. Australia were 142/2 after play stopped for 2nd time on Day 1 eventually leading to STUMPS.

A win against SouthAfrica in the 3rd and final Test will confirm Australia’s place in the WTC Final. Sony Sports Network is broadcasting AUS SA Sydney Test LIVE:
