A new belt called “The Freedom Belt” has been developed by the WBC. The strap is meant to honour Juneteenth, a national celebration in the US that honours the abolition of slavery.
For Mayweather’s upcoming exhibition match against John Gotti III, the grandson of infamous organised crime figure John Gotti, it was decided that the five-division world champion Floyd Mayweather would receive a unique belt, according to World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman.
As per reports, Mayweather showed his special WBS belt after the controversial exhibition against John Gotti III. He explained what is the purpose of the belt, Mayweather told the reporters, “ This belt right here is called the freedom belt for Juneteenth black history, it’s all about giving back.”

He said, that he didn’t do the whole thing by himself, and gave the belt to his business partner CEO Jas Mathur.
By awarding Mayweather, as well as Robert Smith, James McNair, and Deon Taylor their respective themed belts in recognition of their achievements to society, WBC hoped to mark the day as part of the weekend’s celebrations.
