Dipa Karmakar Doping Ban: Dipa’s coach Nandi blamed for failing to file about her whereabouts on the Anti-Doping Administration Management System (ADAMS)
“FIG has no further comments regarding this matter. Thank you for your understanding,” wrote Loïc Vidmer, FIG’s anti-doping medical manager and secretary of the disciplinary commission. Sports Authority of India (SAI) have blamed Dipa’s coach Nandi for failing to file whereabouts on ADAMS managed by WADA, which is designed to secure relevant information about athletes’ whereabouts.
Dipa committed three whereabouts failures in 12 months, and hence she is serving a ban. All athletes Registered Testing Pool (RTP) need to provide about their whereabouts every quarter, which includes stays, activity schedules, competition schedules and locations, and daily 60-minute slot of their daily activities. In Dipa’s case, coach Nandi did not submit reports, nor did the gymnast during the quarterly review.
But in the U-turn of sorts, SAI has defended Nandi and claimed that the coach of Tripura Government State does not work on payroll. NADA is agitated about Nandi for destroying Dipa’s career and wants to take strict action against him, within its jurisdiction. Dipa is the only Indian suspended in the list of 13 gymnasts shared with the Times group. Also, the gymnast’s profile on FIG’s biographies section yielded no results.
It shows Dipa is suspended since March 2021. The gymnast last competed in the FIG event in the 2019 Worl Cup in Baku. Since then, the Produnova girl is out of action after failing to secure qualification for Tokyo Olympics due to a knee injury.
