WWE Smackdown: Is WWE cooking something new for Drew McIntyre? – This past week on Smackdown, a Black Friday Invitational 20-man Battle Royal took place to determine the next challenger for Roman Reigns’ Universal Championship. Almost every Smackdown superstar from the roster competed in that match except for the Scottish Warrior Drew McIntyre.
Drew McIntyre missing from the list of names competing in the Battle Royal, raised many eyebrows as it was a tough pill to swallow. The Scottish Warrior carried the company on his shoulders during the testing COVID-19 times and held the WWE Championship twice in that run. Being the top babyface on Smackdown and pipped as the one to dethrone Roman Reigns, Drew’s omission came as a huge surprise.

Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer threw light on this matter and stated that WWE might be looking to recycle a potential storyline where Drew may get screwed out of opportunities by the WWE authority. Something similar to what is going on with Naomi for weeks by Sonya Deville.

Meltzer stated, “So the key stuff is that obviously, Brock Lesnar is back next week, and they’re doing a new gimmick where the authority figures are trying to screw with Drew McIntyre, which is an entirely new storyline that WWE has never done before. But again, you know what’s what they’re doing. They’re repeating the stuff from the past. I mean, that’s what we are seeing everywhere.”

WWE Smackdown: Brock Lesnar’s return might have nixed Drew McIntyre’s push
Brock Lesnar’s return next week on Friday Night Smackdown might be one of the reasons for the delay in Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre’s storyline. Lesnar is announced for a return next week on Smackdown and he would be challenging the Tribal Chief for the Universal Championship at the Royal Rumble PPV or Wrestlemania 38 in Dallas. With Lesnar smelling revenge on Roman Reigns, WWE might opt for the Scottish Warrior going through the process mentioned by Dave Meltzer.
