WWE News: WWE want to start New Year with a bang, check out why

According to POST Wrestling, WWE will be presenting a live episode of Friday Night SmackDown on FOX on January 1, 2021.

This news comes after it was reported that the Christmas Day edition of the blue show would be taped in advance, allowing the various performers and backroom staff involved with SmackDown to enjoy the holiday off work.

The holiday hasn’t stopped WWE airing a show live in the past, however, as fans will likely remember Monday Night Raw being broadcast live on Christmas Day in 2017. Yet, in recent times the company has preferred to tape the episode in advance, with 2018’s December 25 show being recorded before the day itself.

Also, next week’s Friday Night SmackDown will be airing on FS1 due to college football taking its place on FOX. On top of this, a special edition of Talking Smack will be going down on FS1 next Friday after SmackDown comes to an end at 10pm ET, with a replay of that night’s wrestling action airing at 11pm ET.

Last night’s SmackDown was also the first to air inside of WWE’s ThunderDome 2.0 at the Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida.
