WV Raman Removal – Sourav Ganguly unhappyThe decision to remove WV Raman as the head coach of Indian women’s cricket team received a lot of flak, with BCCI president Sourav Ganguly latest to question the decision. According to Cricbuzz, Sourav Ganguly has formally expressed reservation via letter over the sacking of Raman to the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) which picked Ramesh Powar instead.

While Ganguly did not say anything on the selection of Powar, he however, expressed his surprise on how a coach, who had guided the team to the final of a global tournament, has not been retained.

Though the report adds, Ganguly believes that everyone involved in women’s cricket should respect the decision of the CAC (comprising Madan Lal, RP Singh and Sulakshana Naik) and its functional autonomy. “He should know this himself that the CAC is an independent body,” said a BCCI source was quoted as saying.

WV Raman Removal: What made Sourav Ganguly unhappy?

Ganguly according to the report was unhappy because no reason has been given for the removal of Raman as a coach of the team.

It must be said that some senior members of the team have reportedly complained about Raman but the BCCI president, who himself was a member of the CAC at one time, has felt that the former India opener should have been persisted with and if not should have been communicated properly about his removal.

WV Raman Removal: India had qualified for the final of the Twenty20 World Cup in Australia in 2020 under the coaching of Raman but the team had lost a home series against South Africa badly in March.
