Swiatek was crowned as the World No.1 for the first time in her career on April 4 2022. She had a brilliant run in the season last year. She won a record 37 successive matches. It was the longest winning streak on the women’s tour in the 21st century. Her dominance helped her reach the top spot and take a big lead over her rivals in the rankings.

Swiatek is currently entering her 44th successive week as the No.1. She has been assured of another eight weeks that would help her join the elite list. Serna Williams, Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Steffi Graf, Monica Seles, Martina Hingis, Justine Henin and Ashleigh Barty are the players who have been World No.1 for one full straight year so far. The player from Poland will also be the only active player in the WTA Tour to achieve the feat.

At the Australian Open this year, Swiatek was the favourite. However, she lost in the fourth round contest against Elena Rybakina. After a disappointing season, she is aiming to make a comeback. She is next scheduled to feature in the WTA 500 event in Qatar. The tournament begins from 13th February.
