WTA Rankings: Australian Open 2021 champion Naomi Osaka overtakes Halep, Medvedev surpasses Federer to reach third- Australian Open champion Naomi Osaka has climbed to second place in the latest women’s WTA rankings. The 23-year-old Japanese won her fourth Grand Slam last week. It was her second Australian Open crown. She defeated Jennifer Brady in the final to win the Australian Open title. Osaka has 7835 points and has gone past two-time Grand Slam champion Simona Halep (7255 points).
Meanwhile, Ash Barty continues to remain world No.1 despite losing in the last eight to Karolina Muchova. The Australian has 9186 points.
In men’s singles, Australian Open 2021 runner-up Daniil Medvedev surpassed Roger Federer to reach 3rd place at the top of ATP rankings. The Russian lost to Serbia’s Novak Djokovic who won his ninth Australian Open crown on Sunday.
Djokovic won his 18th Grand Slam and he is only behind Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. They have 20 Grand Slams each in their career.
