WPL Auction 2023: The preparations for the much-anticipated inaugural edition of the WPL are in full swing. Ahead of the Women’s Premier League, the auction was initially scheduled to take place in the first week of February. The apex cricket board recently announced the five owners of the team that would participate in the upcoming tournament. Auction is the next big event in line. The WPL will begin in the first week of March, and the players’ auction is likely to be conducted in the second week of February.
However, the BCCI planned the auction for the first week earlier but shifted the event because of the ongoing wedding season in India, to the 2nd week of this month. The date for the auction is not yet finalized.
In February, the marriage season is at its peak in India, and the BCCI managers are finding it hard to book a hotel. Nevertheless, they have shortlisted two hotels, one in Delhi for February 11 and another in Mumbai for February 13.

Officials of the WPL team said, “The BCCI has shortlisted February 11 (Saturday) and 13 (Monday), but 13th is most likely the one that most franchises are comfortable with.” He added, “We need to give the teams time to plan for the auction,” a BCCI/WPL official confirmed the request regarding ILT20 matches.”
Five cities, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Lucknow, and Bengaluru will have teams in the WPL. The tournament will be played after the conclusion of the Women’s T20 World Cup and before the start of the IPL in 2023.
