Shafali Verma looked in sublime touch as she decided to take on Issy Wong. Wong fresh from her hat-trick in the last game was carted for a six and a boundary as Shafali stamped her authority early on. Chaos ensued in the fourth ball of the over, when the Delhi Capitals opener miscued a high full toss straight to the fielder. MI stars celebrated the wicket, while Delhi questioned the umpire.

With captain Meg Lanning for support, DC took the DRS. Replays suggested that the ball would not dip enough to hit the stumps but could possibly brush the bails off. In a controversial move, the third umpire sided with the on field call and ruled Shafali Verma out. Meg Lanning was livid at the same and also held an animated chat with the umpire.
The swashbuckling Indian opener had scored 241 runs for Delhi prior to the game, with the highest strike rate in the competition than anyone else (182.58).
