World Athletics Championships live: Neeraj Chopra: It just took one attempt and one throw of 88.39 for Neeraj Chopra to qualify for the finals of the men’s javelin throw. His former coach Kashinath Naik believes that Neeraj will be delivering his best in the final and it will go beyond the 91m mark. Achieving automatic qualification in his first attempt allowed Neeraj to relax, and preserve his energy for the final, schedule for Sunday (in India). Also, Rahul Yadav has managed to reach the finals with a throw of 80.42m.
Naik, who won bronze in the Commonwealth Games 2010, observed his throw carefully and felt that he stuttered a little while delivering his throw in Oregon. “If you look at his throw today morning, he kind of stuttered in the run up. But still, he managed to throw a good 88m plus,” Naik told InsideSport.
“Actually, he has not given his 100 percent also. He has reserved his best for the final. If things go well for him in the javelin final, he should cross the 91m mark also. That will be his first and should be enough for gold medal.”
The competition in the final is going to primarily going to be between Anderson Peters and Neeraj Chopra . Both the throwers did not have any problem in securing their final spot. If Neeraj achieved it with a throw of 88.39, Peters came close to breaching the 90m mark with a throw of 89.91.

Hence, both Neeraj and Anderson will go into the finals with their heads held high. There is very little to choose between the two, and it just depends on who shines on the given days.
“See, the competition is going to be there in the final for the gold medal. Neeraj will face strong competition from Anderson Peters, who has been doing extremely well in the international events of late with big throws. So, it will be interesting. But Neeraj has to ensure that he has a great throw in the first attempt. It also depends on how the body is feeling on the particular day of the final as well,” Naik added.
