While Sabhineni Meghana and Jemimah Rodrigues tore the Velocity bowling to shreds, captain Deepti Sharma turned to young Shafali Verma to get through a few overs. Verma, chipped in with her off spin, getting away her two overs for 19 runs. It was the first time, Shafali was seen bowling in the Women’s T20 challenge, while the young indian opener is yet to roll her arm over in international cricket.

The 18-year-old however did bowl frequently for Haryana in the women’s domestic competition, practising her craft. With competition for places growing in the Indian side, Verma adding another skillset to her repertoire only increases her chances of making the team.
Shafali had a forgettable World Cup campaign earlier this year as India were knocked out kn the group stage. Verma has since bounced back into form and scored the fastest fifty in Women’s T20 challenge history last time out, and will hope to keep her form going in what is a busy schedule for the Indian women’s team.
