Wimbledon Quarterfinals 2021: Angelique Kerber defeats Karolina Muchova to book semifinal berth- World No.25 and former Wimbledon champion Angelique Kerber has defeated 19th seed Karolina Muchova in Wimbledon 2021 quarterfinals. She defeated her rival in straight sets and will meet the winner of Ash Barty. Ajla Tomljanovic in next round.
Angelique Kerber, the only remaining ladies’ singles champion in the draw, reached her fourth semi-final at The Championships with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Karolina Muchova on No.1 Court.
Kerber has been to two finals – winning in 2018 and losing two years earlier – and her greater experience told in the opening set against her 24-year-old opponent from the Czech Republic.
The German broke to love to take the first set after half an hour and the only moments of real concern came early in the second.
Muchova eventually broke on her seventh break point, but it was a temporary respite as Kerber’s laser-like groundstrokes put her firmly back in control.
Four games in a row gave her a 5-2 lead, and although Muchova held with a superb backhand volley, it only delayed the inevitable.
She was coming on the back of wins over 20th seed Coco Gauff, Sasnovich, Sorribes Tormo, and Stojanovic.
