The Spanish legend will kickstart the tournament by facing Franciso Cerundolo in the first round. While it is expected to be a smooth sailing for the 36-year old until the third round, the draw would get tricky from the fourth round. He might face 14th seed Marin Cilic in the fourth round. Cilic is in a good touch, having reached the semifinals at the French Open.
If Nadal manage to defeat Cilic in the fourth round, he would face the likes of Felix Auger-Aliassime or Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinal. Aliassime is seeded sixth and although the Canadian faces a tough opening encounter against America Maxime Cressy, he is the favourite from this quarter to make it to the quarterfinals.
Aliassime and Nadal have met earlier this year in the fourth round at French Open, it was a very close contest with Nadal winning the match in five sets.
If not Aliassime, the other favourite to make it to the quartefinals is Taylor Fritz. The 13th seeded American met Nadal earlier this year at the Indian Wells Masters final and while Nadal was looking to win his fourth straight title, the Spaniard was shocked with a straight set defeat by Fritz, who also broke his 21-match unbeaten streak to win the Indian Wells title.
In the semifinal the Spaniard will face challenge from Stefanos Tsitsipas or Matteo Berrettini as both the players will be playing in his half of the draw. If he manages to reach the final, he is likely to face rival Novak Djokovic.
Rafael Nadal has won two Wimbledon titles, with the last one coming in the year 2010. Nadal now eyes his 23rd major title.
