Andy Murray vs Denis Shapovalov

Andy Murray’s Wimbledon return, after four years’ absence, is over. Twice this Fortnight he has come back from the brink of defeat, roared on each time by a thrilled Centre Court. Recovering a two-set deficit against 22-year-old No.10 seed Denis Shapovalov was, however, a mountain too high.

Under both the evening sky and the floodlit roof, his young opponent had too much energy, power, and sharpness. Murray never gave up, resisting even when 0-4 down in the third, but he was simply outgunned. It is the first time he has failed to make the second week since his debut, in 2005. Shapovalov, meanwhile, is in the fourth round for the first time

The two-time champion was broken in his second and third service matches and while he wiped out one break, and had two break points to level to 5-5, went down 6-4.

As if drained by that lengthy game he swiftly went 4-0 down in the second, ultimately losing it 6-2 after Shapovalov survived an 18-point service game at 1-4.

Novak Djokovic vs Denis Kudla

World number one Novak Djokovic fought an intense game against American tennis player Denis Kudla on Friday to advance to the fourth round of the ongoing Wimbledon Championships.

The Serbian player defeated Kudla in three straight sets 6-4, 6-3, 7-6(7) with the win in the third set coming after being trailing at the start of the essay. Djokovic had played against Kudla twice before with similar results including a straight-sets win in the second round at The Championships 2019.

Iga Swiatek vs Irina-Camelia Begu

Only four women have won Wimbledon having also clinched the junior title, but Iga Swiatek is looking an increasingly good bet to add her name to that list after storming into the fourth round with a 6-1 6-0 demolition of Irina-Camelia Begu on Friday.

Former French Open champion Swiatek’s relentless pressure game crushed her Romanian opponent in a blink of an eye in a one sided demolition on Court 12. Poland’s Swiatek, seeded seven, suffocated her opponent from the start to reach the last 16 with her third straight-sets victory.

Sania Mizra, Bopanna vs Ankita Raina, Ramanathan

Star India player Sania Mirza and her mixed doubles partner Rohan Bopanna defeated compatriots Ankita Raina and Ramkumar Ramanathan in the first round of the ongoing Wimbledon Championships on Friday.

Sania and Bopanna beat Ankita and Ramanathan in two straight sets 6-2, 7-6. The first set was rather easy for the experienced duo as they clinched the game with a considerable margin. However, Ankita and Ramanathan gave their all in the second set, and Sania and Bopanna had to fight hard to come out with flying colours. The all-Indian contest lasted for one hour and nine minutes as Sania and her partner won 69 points, 11 more than their opponents.
