Kylian Mbappe-Real Madrid Transfer saga timeline

French Superstar Kylian Mbappe’s saga with La Liga giants Real Madrid has dominated the headlines almost every transfer window.

The saga started in 2017 when Mbappe was breaking through the ranks at Monaco. Real Madrid were strongly rumoured to be after the French teenager but PSG moved fast to sign Mbappe for €180m.

In 2021, Mbappe had one year left of his contract with PSG. Real Madrid tabled a bid of €160m but PSG maintained Mbappe was not for sale.

2022 saw another intense battle for Mbappe as Real Madrid came in with renewed vigour for the Frenchman. Some outlets even claimed that Mpappe had signed a pre-contract with Real Madrid.

Mbappe told PSG in writing that he would not sign a contract extension.Finally, it took French President Emmanuel Macron's plea for Mbappe to sign a contract extension till 2024

Mbappe was given unprecedented powers at PSG to sign the extension, ranging from having a say in the club's transfer policies to getting a share of the club's profits.

With Mbappe's contract coming to an end in 2024, rumours about a move to Real Madrid have resurfaced. However, Mbappe's camp denied the rumours, signalling no end to the saga.
