Rooney recently spoke to Talksport and sang the praises of Tyson Fury. The former footballer even called for ‘The Gypsy King’ to receive knighthood. And now the undefeated boxer has responded to the footballer.

Fury also caught up with Talksport and called Rooney a ‘proper legend’ and said he grew up watching him play for England and Manchester United. ‘The Gypsy King’ then added,

He’s a massive boxing fan. He comes from a boxing family as well, so, hopefully we can have a spar in the future sometime. I do need somebody smaller to prepare for Usyk. So, Wayne, if you’re listening, ‘get on the blower son.’”

So, while this is yet another interaction between a footballer and a boxer, it is very different from the Canelo and Messi situation. Unlike Canelo, Fury isn’t threatening Rooney. And the WBC heavyweight champion even used the situation to make a dig against his next opponent, Oleksandr Usyk.

Could Wayne Rooney actually spar Tyson Fury?

As Tyson Fury pointed out, Wayne Rooney is not new to the boxing world. The former Manchester United player is a huge boxing fan and even took up the sport when he was younger. Rooney has also met up with several boxers, including the legendary Mike Tyson.

The former footballer also had his infamous sparring incident with Phil Bardsley, where viral videos showed Rooney getting knocked out by his colleague. So boxing is not new to Wayne. Moreover, in the current state of boxing, you can not rule out anything.

Therefore, it will be no surprise if Fury and Wayne Rooney meet in the ring. However, one thing is for sure it will definitely be a friendly spar.

What do you make of the respect between the two legends? Would you like to see Wayne Rooney spar Tyson Fury?
