The main event of UFC Fight Night: Whittaker vs. Gastelum proved to be one of the best in a long time. It was a masterclass from Whittaker and Gastelum just couldn’t keep up. However, he deserves all the credit for hanging in there and firing back whenever he could.
Whittaker showed his entire weaponry and also gave an insight into his personality when he complimented Gastelum after the fight. Whittaker was always too fast for Gastelum in the fight and even dominated the fight on the ground.
He completely eliminated Gastelum’s threat on the ground and made him engage into a stand-up fight. Whittaker took the fight by the scruff of it’s neck and utilized his famous two punch- high kick combo to dismantle Gastelum’s defense.
He won all five rounds of the fight and out struck Gastelum in every single round. To add insult to the injury, he also took Gastelum down multiple times, completely ignoring the fact that Gastelum is one of the best wrestlers in the division.
This fight was a testament to his quality. All three judges sored the fight 50-45 in favor of the Aussie. He will definitely face the middleweight champion Israel Adesanya now in a rematch of their 2019 fight. Adesanya won that fight and beat Whittaker to take the belt from him.
It was a second round knockout and Whittaker has since revealed that he made several mistakes in that fight. However, he looked inch perfect in this one and almost looked invincible. Well, beating a champion like Israel Adesanya requires a similar performance from ‘The Reaper.’
Stay tuned and watch him compete fpr the belt again in the near future. If he beats Adesanya then he will become one of the greatest middleweights of all time, joining greats like Georges St. Pierre and, of course, Adesanya.
