This opinion has come after Alexander Volkanovski talked about wanting to move up and fight at the Lightweight division. However, Yair Rodriguez has suggested that the Featherweight champion will have a tough time against the two if they were to meet.

During a recent interview with Hablemos MMA, Yair Rodriguez talked about Alexander Volkanovski’s chances at the Lightweight division. He said:
“I think a fight for him at 155 pounds could be good, but the fighters are still going to be very big for his stature. I’m not saying size is everything, but the level of fighters like Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira, I think they’re very high ranking and caliber and I don’t think they’ll have too many issues fighting Volkanovski, and I say that with all the respect to the champion because he’s really good. But I do think whoever wins the belt at lightweight will have better chances than Volkanovski.”
It is worth noting that there is a significant size difference between Alexander Volkanovski and the fighters at the Lightweight division. However, Volkanovski’s move to Lightweight division is uncertain at the moment.
As things stand right now, Alexander Volkanovski will most likely take on Yair Rodriguez next inside the octagon. He is coming off a dominant victory against Max Holloway in their trilogy bout.
On the flipside, Yair Rodriguez recently took on Brian Ortega. The fight had a rather bizarre ending after Ortega dislocated his shoulder in the first round of the fight.
It remains to be seen as to whether Alexander Volkanovski will move up to the Lightweight division or defend his Featherweight title again in the future.
